Feb 23, 2021 - Chicago House Announced As Team Name
This Date in Chicago House AC Club History
On February 23, 2021, Chicago House Athletic Club was officially announced as the name of the new Chicago Professional Men’s soccer team.
To ensure community participation from the kickoff, Chicago soccer fans had been asked to suggest team names, and over 400 ideas came in. Those 400 were whittled down to 68 for an NCAA basketball tournament style contest known as “Moniker Madness.” Head-to-head matchups in 4 Regionals, Dan Ryan, Edens, Eisenhower and Kennedy, took place over the course of three months, with fan votes determining winners. As with most knockout tournaments, a Cinderella run was made, and 14th seeded Second City FC reached the final 4.
In the final, Kennedy Regional #1 seed Chicago House, submitted by fan Brian Costin and inspired by the peace, love and acceptance of Chicago House music, defeated Edens Regional #1 seed Point Chicago, inspired by Jean-Baptiste Pointe DuSable, the first permanent non-Native resident of what became Chicago. Thus, on February 23, 2021, Chicago House AC officially became our team’s name.
